'Eating carpet is strictly prohibited', mistranslated airport sign goes viral

New Delhi, Nov 1: Veteran actress Shabana Azmi on Thursday uploaded a rather interesting photo on Instagram. The picture was about a mistranslated airport sign which ended up receiving a lot of virality.

The photo allegedly of a Chennai airport truly demonstrated the essence of proper grammar. The sign which says 'Farsh par khaana sakht mana hai,' which means 'Eating on the floor is strictly prohibited', was mistranslated to, 'Eating Carpet Strictly Prohibited,' with the absence of the word 'on'.

However, responding to the criticism received on the picture, Airports Authority of India (AAI) claimed the image was morphed. "Important Announcement from #AAI Since 2015, this morphed image shown has been doing rounds time and again. Requesting everyone not to circulate any such photographs without proper fact-checking," AAI tweeted.

While AAI claimed the image was morphed, one of the netizens wrote, "It is NOT a morphed image. I saw this exact board in Chennai Airport six months or so back. It is no longer there but that does NOT mean it is a morphed image."

poor standard of airport of a country of five trillion economy!!
Even the phenyl used in Mangaluru airport has such a dirty smell. Nowadays, such nice perfumed chemicals are available. But I think this is cheap and the purchasing officer can make some bucks on that.
