Udupi, Jul 27: First staff of Kasturba Medical College (KMC) Manipal and hospital, retired dean Dr A Krishna Rao (96) passed away at his residence in the compound of Sonia Clinic in Manipal on July 26.
Dr Rao is survived by his three daughters of Sonia clinic, Dr Girija, Dr Gauri and Dr Shubhageetha.
When Dr T M A Pai established the first private medical college of the country in 1954, Dr Krishna Rao and his wife Dr Padma Rao arrived at Manipal and lived there till the end of their lives.
Dr Rao is a native of Andhra Pradesh. He had taught physiology to thousands of students of the college and was revered by everyone for his teaching skills. Along with enormous knowledge, Dr Rao was known for his simplicity, committment and courteous nature. He contributed immensely to the medical education field by implementing new ways of teaching for the professors of medical education.
Dr Rao had served as dean of KMC for 22 long years. After his retirement, he served as an honorary professor. He had presented essays in various medical periodicals and journals. He had presented essays in numerous national and international medical seminars.
The foundation laid by Dr Krishna Rao is the reason for the education level of KMC Manipal to reach its height where it is today. Though Dr Rao had donned various positions in his lifetime, Club in Manipal.
The mortal remains of Dr Rao will be kept for public viewing at Sonia Clinic Manipal from 8.30 am to 9 am of Monday July 27.
