Kasargod, Dec 6: In a mysterious incident that took place on Friday December 4, the mortal remains of a one-and-a-half-year-old baby was found in the well at Katukukke near Perla here.

The deceased has been identified as Swasthik, son of Babu and Sharada couple, residents of Perlathadka in the district.

As the circumstances leading to the death of the child are not clear, the body has been sent to Kozhikode Medical College hospital for post-mortem.

It is said that Babu had been to work on the morning of Friday. His wife Sharada and the toddler Swasthik were at home. The boy went missing at around 9 am. Search for the child in the neighbourhood did not yield any result. Later the boy was found floating in the public well, which is at a distance of 300 meters from home. The locals immediately brought the toddler up but the child had breathed his last.

Health officials arrived at the spot and conducted inquiry. Badiadka police have registered a case and investigations are on.

Sources said that the child's mother, unable to bear the loss, became mentally ill and has been shifted to her parent's house in Puttur.

Very mysterious .Sad too.Heartfelt sympathy to family.May God give enough strenght to bear the pain.Let little angel may rest with angels above and show the culprit whoever it is of his death.I can only think if at all ,if a rope was attached to the well baby must have crowled there when mother was out of sight and played with rope ,and it must have slipped to well with rope.?sometimes children will do things in a second where we cant imagine. But even 300 meters also is a big distance for a toddler of one and a half year old.How safe it would have been if well was covered with a net.

This could be an attempt to kidnap the child gone wrong or a murder done to please some deity .
There is no way a child can go that far and fall in the well. May God comfort the parents and bless them.
