Karnataka imposes night curfew from tonight till January 2

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network

Bengaluru, Dec 23: Reversing his earlier decision against imposing night curfew in the State to check the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Wednesday announced clamping of night curfew all over Karnataka from 10 pm to 6 am from tonight till January 2.

The decision to impose night curfew all over the State has been taken in view of the detection of the new strain of more contagious and serious strain of COVID 19 based on the advice of the Government of India, the Chief Minister said.

Making a sudden announcement before media, the Chief Minister said all international travellers arriving in the State will have to produce RT-PCR test negative certificate taken 72 hours before arrival. Arrangements for conducting RT-PCR tests have been made in the airports as per the Government of India directive.

The imposition of strict night curfew all over the State would mean there will be no celebrations or public gatherings of any kind for the Christmas or New Year celebrations.

I do not think that this is a political move. It appears to be implementation to hide from criticism later, if something goes wrong and the administration is targeted for poor handling.

I was shocked to see some of the pictures of temple festivities in SNS, where even during the day, mask is never worn in DK. Social distancing is thrown out of the window. Don't know if it is due to a mental strength developed against the virus or due to the immunity and hence the ability to take risk.

If it is about extended partying during the 2 extended weekend that was in the mind behind this order, early closure of wine shop and restaurants would have also achieved the intended effect. However, here it appears that the motive is to prevent large movement of people and consequently localize the spread of a potential highly contagious mutant of the virus.

    Shame on this Yedyurappa government.

Deepavali is celebrated in Karnataka in much huge gatherings and to a greater extent than Christmas. There were no restrictions for the celebration. There are gatherings for political purposes, markets, buses.. everywhere during day time. Why the CM and his advisors turn a blind eye on this?
This is nothing but a cowardice idea to suppress Christians of Karnataka. Everyone return from the church by 9 pm and then celebrate throughout the night. Government targeted this.

We need to protest. Everyone, blast your music systems inside your compounds on Christmas eve. There is no restrictions on the gatherings inside the compound. You can invite me too!
    Enjoy, Merry Christmas.

    Dear Shankar from Mangaluru,
Cracker sale was banned during Diwali. That was already end of Diwali; and in places like Delhi, it was a welcome move.
I think, world is alarmed at the 78% spreading rate of this mutant (identified in UK) of the virus and its ability to overwhelm the health apparatus of the state in a short time. With 60 odd returnees from UK in DK/Udupi, this measure makes sense as it may serve to localize the spread.
With allowance of Christmas mass and exception to curfew for those attending, it should stop some politically motivated mongering by people like you, I hope.

If there is any Election, they would have made arrangements for the Covid patients also to come to the booth to vote, citing the reason that it is their fundamental right to vote! During canvassing these people forget Covid and act as if everything is normal. Only during festivities they suddenly wake up !

Why do u always think negative of a person or Govt? Meeting, Hugging, gathering is common during Christmas and new year celebration. It is for all our welling that curfew has been imposed. Celebration can be done next year also. In some christian countries 24 hour curfew is in place during Christmas. Please understand and think broadly. It is for the safety of society.

But our bishop has given strict orders which must be followed in churches . We go through thermal screening , sanitization,. Maintaining distance that to only 2 to 3 person in one bench and mask is mandatory while entering the church . Every church in DK and udupi diocese has cancelled the Christmas celebrations and no gathering around the church premises And we Christians follow strict COVID 19
Protocols given by both church and the government .

I think from Nagpur headquarters they put pressure to disturb Christmas feast of Catholic brothers and sisters. So he had to bend.

All fictitious figures and concerns are created overnight to prevent the catholic community from enjoying their feast.

Till Sunday shasti was there so no corona..

It proves our government just follows blindly the West which are following unscientific measures to contain a virus that has spread nearly a year ago & the measures like lock down or partial curfew had failed too in the beginning itself.

On one hand the government says no need to worry for school going children on the other hand they announce it is fast spreading & serious strain, while the health minister of center says it is more infectious but not deadly as the previous one or the same.

Total confusion, silly silly confusions. I wonder why our ministers do not listen to real scientists who are against all these failed measures & are showing how to overcome any pandemic situations without causing fear & panic among people at the same time not destroying the economies of any country. It seems most govts. aren't worried about their state of economy or welfare of people by following self harming measures instead of constructive approach based on sound scientific approach rather than that of fake science based measures till today.
