Mangaluru, Jan 21: The 'Maya Gang', which participated in the murder attempt on a police personnel near the New Chitra Junction in the city recently, the police believe, also participated in the firing incident in 2019 in the city. Based on the information they got, the police are investigating the case with zeal.
Two young men had died in the firing incident on December 19, 2019, during the anti CAA protest after the police opened fire. A team of Maya Gang had tried to murder a police personnel on December 16, 2020, as a revenge for the above deaths. The police have arrested eight persons relating to the case.
On the second day of the attack on the police, Kudroli Nawaz and a juvenile delinquent were arrested by the police. The minor boy referred here is a close relative of Nausheen, who died in the firing.
Out of the arrested persons, cases have been registered at different police stations against three persons including Anish Ashraf. During the questioning, the police got clue that the gang was involved with the firing incident. Now they are checking their mobile records, CCTV footage and other records. The members of the Maya Gang already face cases like ganja consumption and trafficking, betting, etc. They are members of an organization, and locally have formed the Maya Gang through which they have been executing illegal activities and trying to disturb social harmony. They planned to execute their plan on December 19 but fearing that security would be tight that day, they advanced it by three days.
