Bengaluru, Sep 16: Chief minister (CM) Basavaraj Bommai has given go ahead to distribute quality boiled rice through Public Distribution System (PDS) to ration card holders of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts.
Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel, BJP state vice president Nirmal Kumar Surana and vice president of state food and civil supplied Kiran Kumar Kodgi met CM Bommai on Thursday and discussed the boiled rice distribution matter.
CM Bommai agreed to release Rs 299.33 crore required to release boiled rice to ration card holders of coastal districts. Nalin Kumar Kateel said that 621804 families will benefit from this decision.
At present only 50 percent of the quota of rice is given as boiled rice for ration card holder of coastal districts. This is taken from FCI. However, the quality is very poor. So the government has decided to buy the paddy under minimum support price and convert it into local boiled rice of good quality.
