I travelled in local trains in Mumbai it is necessary to travel safely because trains are safer than any other mode of transport and quick death occurs when you do some extra ordinary things. so doors are open but very few accidents happen here.

we all have this dirty habit of either standing near door or jumping onto platform from moving train. Changed this habit after a large group of Russian women roasted me on one such journey in Goa

When there is a lack of common sense and responsibility, these things bound to happen. Unlike Mumbai local trains, the trains through Kerala are not so crowded and hanging on the doors of a running train is heights of irresponsibility and it calls for calamities like this one. You can't blame the country for this.

Well said, RealKujuma. Why can't the doors of all public transport be closed AUTOMATICALLY once the vehicle starts moving? it does not take any rocket science to introduce this feature in a bus or a train. And as for relocating to Europe or Australia, New Zealand or North America, please share with me the contact details of anyone who is ready to help you. I will certainly join you.
