Inter-faith duo on bike stopped, woman slapped in Doddaballapur

Bengaluru, Sep 30 (IANS): In an incident of moral policing in Karnataka's Doddaballapur town, an inter-faith duo riding a bike was forcibly stopped and the woman slapped.

The Karnataka Police have arrested a person and launched a hunt for another in Doddaballapur, which is the neighbouring town of Bengaluru city, police said on Friday.

The arrested person has been identified as Akbar, an electrician and a resident of Islampur in Doddaballapur. The police have launched a hunt for Hujur, who has disappeared after the police action.

According to police, the incident took place on September 25 in broad daylight and it came to light only after Bajrang Dal activists noticed the video and approached the police.

The accused, who were on bike, noticed a young woman travelling on a bike with her male friend. Hujur stopped the bike and asked the couple to get down from their vehicle. Later, the woman was asked to give her name. After initially refusing, she gave out her name after being abused publicly.

After coming to know that the young woman belongs to the minority community, the miscreants asked the girl to give her parents' mobile number.

The victim and her friend protested this and the accused slapped the woman. The accused Akbar videographed the entire incident. After the incident, the couple did not approach the police.

After the complaint was filed, the police issued notices to the woman and her friend. They are yet to record their statements. Police sources said that the young couple were colleagues at a private company and had plans of getting married.

The police have registered cases under IPC Sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 341 (wrongful restraint), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) and 354 (criminal force to woman and intent to outrage modesty). Further investigation is on.

We will not say cheap things like it is said other way around. We will whole heartedly welcome our sister into community & provide protection & shower blessings, it is not even necessary to change religion except legally to fulfiil stone age customs! Otherwise each one can practise their religion seperately. But the man must ensure come what may he will stand beside her & will not bow down to figs

@ Mr. Hegde & Mr. Joel, Now since anti-conversion law is in force, interfaith married girls can take benefit if they are compelled to convert against their will before or after marriage. First of all such girls should insist on civil marriage without the involvement of any religion.

We as a nation will be doomed if we continuously put barriers between humans... Religion is not coming to us as a choice... We are born with it and brainwashed from childhood to follow that... Nowadays younger generation have stepped forward and are asking questions within themselves... Very soon religions will loose prominence in the priorities list of people... Law must be so strong that miscreants like these thugs have to think twice before interfering in others' business...

It's gaining momentum we have read in the recent months about forced conversion after getting married with love and inter-faith. Many girls either were murdered or they committed suicide due to increase in torture to the girl to follow boy's religion. Then why should we allow interfaith marriages?

On the contrary younger generation is too aggressive in imposing their religion. The tolerance that prevailed during the 1980s and 90s had virtually disappeared. Take the case of hijab vs. saffron shawls which was unheard of during those days. Recently a young man in his mid 30s killed his converted wife for refusing to wear a burkha. More surprising was this tragic incident happened not in any remote village but in a highly advanced city called ‘maya nagri’ or Mumbai.
