Mangaluru: Tahsildar denied bail by court, remanded to judicial custody

Mangaluru, Oct 1: The court has denied bail to tahsildar Purandar Hegde and has remanded him to judicial custody in a bribery case.

The tahsildar and his assistant were caught red-handed on Friday, September 30 in the afternoon while receiving bribe at the taluk office at Mini Vidhana Soudha here.

Tahsildar Purandar and his assistant Shivananda Natekar are the accused. They were taken into custody by the Lokayukta police. The duo had sought Rs 4,700 as bribe for issuing NOC to a citizen of the city.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of Lokayukta SP Laxmi Ganesh and DySP Cheluvaraj. This was the first case after Lokayukta was reinstated after the Anti-Corruption Bureau was dissolved by the government.
