Mumbai, May 2(PTI): The Indian rupee shed 13 paise to Rs 44.35 against the US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, largely in line with weakness in other Asian currencies against the US dollar overseas.
The rupee closed 21 paise higher at Rs 44.22/23 against the dollar in Friday's trade due to fresh selling of the greenback by banks and exporters in view of the persistent fall of the dollar in overseas markets.
Forex dealers said weakness in major currencies against the dollar overseas mainly put pressure on the rupee sentiment.
