Bengaluru, Oct 9: The state government is committed to providing opportunities for the oppressed classes like Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes to live with dignity, equality, self-reliance and self-respect assured Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in Bengaluru on Sunday.
Talking to reporters after garlanding the statue of Saint Valmiki on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti here on Sunday, he said they are celebrating the Jayanti of Maharshi Valmiki, a great humanist, creator of Ramayana and a beacon for the whole world.
The decision to celebrate Valmiki Jayanti was taken at the State Cabinet meeting held in Kalaburagi when B S Yediyurappa was the Chief Minister, he said.
Bommai mentioned that he was fortunate to have participated in the historic cabinet meeting in which meeting Ministers B Sriramulu and Govind Karjol were also present.
The Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti celebrations have been celebrated in the most meaningful manner ever since. The State Government is formulating programmes on the basis of ideology and preaching of the Maharshi to be inculcated by everyone in the society, he said.
The Chief Minister said the Ramayana written by Maharshi Valmiki has been considered one of the best ten great works in the world. By creating Ramayana, the Saint has given the essence of life and shown the way to lead a pious life. Every sequence in Ramayana is worth following.
As the Chief Minister, Bommai promised to adopt the preaching and ideology of Maharshi Valmiki in administration.
