Udupi: Model Your Microbe organized by MMMC, Manipal

Udupi, Oct 10:The faculty of Department of Microbiology, Melaka Manipal Medical College (MMMC) organized “Model Your Microbe”on October 8, an intra-university competition with an aim to encourage the talents, knowledge, skills and creativity of undergraduate students of Health Sciences Institutions of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal.

In all, 12 teams comprising of MBBS students from Melaka Manipal Medical College (Manipal campus) and other Health Sciences institutions of MAHE from both Manipal and Mangaluru campus participated in this contest. They were instructed to design a model of existing or non existing microbe of their choice.

Team consisting of 4-5 students were allowed to design 3D structures of microorganisms with creativity innovation.

The chief guest, Dr K Ramnarayan, pro chancellor, Sikkim Manipal University inaugurated the event and Dr Narayana Sabhahit, registrar, MAHE, Manipal was the chief Guest for valedictory function. Dr Ullas Kamath, dean, MMMC graced the occasion. Dr Shobha K L, associate dean, professor & head, Department of Microbiology, MMMC rendered the welcome address.

The designed models were assessed by three eminent judges from various institutions of MAHE, Manipal. The prize distribution was held after judging the models.

The first prize was won by MMMC students, second prize by Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangaluru and third prize by Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal.
