Mangaluru: World Mental Health Day celebrated at Expert P U College, Valachil

Mangaluru, Oct 11: The 10th of October was celebrated as World Mental Health Day with the theme, “Make mental health and well-being for all a global priority.” To mark the occasion, a brilliant session on ‘Student Coping Skills and Self Help’ was conducted by Dr Ravichandra Karkal, associate professor, Yenepoya Medical College here at the Cultural Centre of Expert Pre University College, Valachil.

The programme was organized under the EDUPATH Series-3.

Addressing the students Dr Ravichandra Karkal said, “Stress is a very natural human response. Mental stress is inevitable in the pursuit of success or an achievement. Even a beautiful looking idol has faced thousands of blows of chisel and hammer in the process of its making. It is essential for us to know how to deal with mental stress.” The resource person enlightened the students about the physical, cognitive and emotional symptoms of stress and coping strategies. Later, there was a question-answer session where the students sought answers from the resource person for a plethora of queries.

Earlier, Prof Narendra L Nayak, chairman, Expert Group of Institutions, Mangaluru accorded a floral welcome to Dr Ravichandra Karkal. Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice chairperson, Expert Group of Institutions, Mangaluru presented a memento to the resource person.

Dr N K Vijayan Karippal, principal, Raghavendra Shenoy, vice principal (admin) and members of faculty were present on the on the occasion. Suravi of I PUC welcomed the dignitaries and compered the programme.
