Udupi, Oct 11: The Sahakara Bharathi Udupi district unit has urged to raise the milk support price according to the cost of production to at least Rs 10.
Sahakara Bharati district unit convener Sanoor Narasimha Kamath, speaking here in the press conference, said that the production cost of milk has been increasing due to floods, drought, natural calamities and other reasons.
"The dairy farmers are about to give up the trade. There is a decrease of milk production by about 4 to 5 lacs litres in KMF limits per day. The Dakshina Kannada Milk Producers' Federation is paying an additional Rs 2.05 support price. As the production cost has gone up, the government should raise the support price by at least Rs 10. If the government does not take quick action in this connection, the dairy farmers in the village will be united after Deepavali Gopooja and protests will be held across the state," he warned.
Udupi district Sahakara Bharathi president Bola Sadashiva Shetty, Mayasoor division organizing leader Mohan Kumar Kumblekar, milk unit head Kamalaksha Hebbar and chief secretary Prashanth were present.
