Chennai, May 3 (IANS): City based non-governmental organisation (NGO) Prime Point Foundation will honour three members of parliament Saturday for their top performance till date in the 15th Lok Sabha.
"In recognition of their performance till the budget session, we will be awarding Hansraj Gangaram Ahir of the BJP, Anandrao Adsul of the Shiv Sena and S.S. Ramasubbu of the Congress. This is the second year we are honouring the top performing MPs," founder of Prime Point Foundation K. Srinivasan told IANS.
He said the Bharatiya Janata Party's MP Ahir was selected on the basis of overall performance. At the end of budget session, Ahir had participated in 70 debates, introduced 17 private member bills and raised 499 questions. His total tally is 586.
"The Shiv Sena MP, Adsul ranks second with a total tally of 571 - debates (23), private member bills (3) questions (545). He is the top questioner in the Lok Sabha. Even in the 14th Lok Sabha, Adsul raised 1,333 questions," Srinivasan said.
Congress MP from Tamil Nadu S.S. Ramasubbu has scored a tally of 532 - debates (60), private member bills (0) and questions (472).
"Overall, Ramasubbu ranks fourth and ranks first amongst the 39 Lok Sabha MPs from Tamil Nadu," Srinivasan said.
"My tally would have been higher had only parliament functioned smoothly without disruptions," Ramasubbu told IANS.
The Congress MP raised questions on agriculture, minimum support price (MSP) for vegetables, industry and other issues.
According to Srinivasan, top 10 MPs contribute eight percent of the 15th Lok Sabha's total business - participation in debates, raising questions and introducing private member bills.
"Top 50 MPs account for one-third of the Lok Sabha's business. And top 200 MPs account for 80 percent of the Lok Sabha's business," Srinivasan said.
He said the foundation will also honour Manam Malarattum and Build Future India, engaged in the field of supporting poor students' education, and serial inventor Arvind Thiagarajan having around 40 patents in his name.
Thiagarajan has invented a stethoscope with a display unit enabling a doctor to hear the heart murmurs clearly to detect heart ailments. It can also show the sound rhythm on the screen and printout can be taken.
