Udupi, Oct 13: Bengaluru-based female bikers, Swati R and Anita M, have initiated a bike tour in three coastal districts with a motto to save marine life. They are travelling across the coast of Mangaluru, Udupi and Uttara Kannada creating awareness on marine life.
A programme in this regard was held at Hoode beach to raise awareness about beach protection and cleanliness.
Anita is a homemaker, whereas Swati R quit her government job to initiate the campaign.
In February, Anita and Swati had travelled across 31 districts of Karnataka with a motto to create ‘Fear-free Karnataka for women’.
‘Save Marine Life’ undertaken this time is a campaign to create awareness among people for saving marine life. Both the women are cleaning the beaches and also hosting programmes for the same in association with local organizations.
The ride was flagged off from Bengaluru on October 9. Speaking about their campaign Swathi said, “Single-use plastic is extremely destructive for the environment. If people's attitude is changed, it will be much easier to safeguard nature.” She also opined that all the beaches in Udupi district are eligible to get the Blue Flag tag.
Government first grade college Thenkanidiyoor NSS Unit, Nirmal Tonse organization and Lions Club Santhekatte joined hands with the drive and cleaned the beach in Hoode.
Sushma, NSS project officer, Venkatesh Kunder, president Nirmal Tonse, Praveen Carvalho, president Lions Club Santhekatte, Sudarshan Naik, secretary, Ganesh D, treasurer, Raghavendra Prabhu Karvalu, Udaya Naik, Julius Lewis, Ganesh Prasad G Nayak, Ashwini, Shraddha, Sanjana, Samiksha, Rakshit, Sukanth U Naik and others were present.
