Mangaluru: Lourdes Central School observes International Girl Child Day

Mangaluru, Oct 13: The International Girl Child Day with the theme – ‘Our Time is now - Our rights, Our future’, was observed on October 11 at Lourdes Central School. The morning assembly was conducted by the students of Class 7. The programme was held along with the Kannada saptaha and Mental Health Week. The assembly began with a prayer in Kannada followed by the intentions.

Joanne Karkad read the significance of the day. She highlighted that the International Girl Child Day is dedicated to girl child and eliminate gender based bias. Students were appraised on few tips to stay healthy.

As a part of Kannada week, students read about great poets like Kuvempu, Shivaram Karanth, Dattatreya Ramachandra Bendre, Maasti Venkatesha Iyengar who had received Jnanapeeta Prashasti for their works in Kannada.

Fr Robert Dsouza addressed the gathering and said that each girl child should be valued and respected. Principal then motivated the students to be happy and healthy.
Deona of Class 7 compered the programme.
