Bantwal: Gram panchayat official’s house burgled, Rs 1.2 lac worth gold found stolen

Bantwal, Oct 15: An official's house was burgled and gold ornaments valued at lakhs of rupees were stolen in Olabailu of Kukkala village.

A case of theft has been registered in Punjalkatte police station.

Sylvia Fernandes' house, who works as a development officer in Sarpadi gram panchayat (GP), was burgled and about 25 grams of gold was found stolen.

Sylvia had been to daughter's place and after the thieves ascertained that no one was at home in the night they broke into the house through an iron window using a cutter. After a thorough search for valuables, the thieves made away with two rings and two ear studs kept in a cupboard valued at Rs 1.2 lac.

Punjalkatte police sub-inspector Sutesh visited Sylvia's house and conducted an inspection. Sniffer dogs were also pressed into service. Fingerprints were collected and sent to the forensic experts.

    1.2 lakh worth of items are not worth the trouble the fellows took... House owner must be quite intelligent to keep the bulk of the assets elsewhere safely... Known people have done this after days of research... Continuous tracking of cctv recording in and around the house will lead to the culprits... Police will surely catch the guys...
