Mangaluru: Sweet talk with stranger costs Areca trader Rs 50,000 cash

Mangaluru, Oct 16: An areca trader of Uppinangady was cheated of Rs 50,000 in an incident that happened in the town.

The trader lost the amount after he was bowled over by sweet talk of a person who on the pretext of taking change ended up cheating the former.

This incident happened close to the national highway. A bike-borne person wanted some change for Rs 500 but ended up getting Rs 50,000 for himself in a bizarre cheating case.

When the person asks for change for Rs 500, the areca trader gives him the change. The biker shows another Rs 500 note and tries to show the trader a yellow mark in the note which he says is rare and in demand. He told the areca trader that he wanted all the money that the trader and asked him if he had the money.

Then, the trader takes out a bundle of Rs 500 notes totalling Rs 50,000 and hands it over to the bike man telling him to see how many of such notes are there in the bundle and also to take such of those notes. When the bike man starts counting the money, another person standing near the bike enquires about the price of areca nut. When the trader begins chatting with the person, the bike man who was counting the Rs 500 bundle of money totalling Rs 50,000 escapes from the scene.

The trader who lost the money filed an oral complaint with the Uppinangady police.

The police are conducting an inquiry into the case from all angles.
