Udupi, Oct 22: Annual sports meet of St Mary’s English medium school (CBSE) Kannarpady was held on October 21 at the school grounds.
Gautham Shetty, chairperson, Torpedoes Sports Club, Mangaluru and president of Tennis ball cricket association, Udupi declared the sports meet open after receiving the sports torch. Fr Charles Menesez, correspondent, hoisted the flag. The dignitaries released the tricolor balloons to mark the spirit of national integrity.
Addressing the students he said, “St Mary’s English medium school has been supporting sports from the very beginning. Sports teaches life skills. Life is all about winning and losing. Sports make children learn life skills. Unless you lose you will never learn how to win. No one can become overnight champion, continuous effort, dedication, discipline and regular practice makes a perfect sports person."
Fr Charles Menezes the correspondent in his presidential address blessed the event and extended his good wishes to the entire participants.
More than 700 students performed the mass drill on the occasion. The sports flame of St Mary's was lit and the torch was taken in a relay by the sports achievers of the school Nihal, Purvi, Kaushil, Prarthana, Raisha, Thanvi and Savin. Amogh sports leader of the school council administered the sports oath to all the participants.
Asmitha Rebello, associate of Goldman Sachs Bengaluru and alumna of St Mary’s english medium school was the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony. She distributed the prizes and honored the sports achievers with trophies.
Fr Johnson Sequeira principal, Rita Quadros vice principal, Boniface D'Souza, vice president of parish pastoral committee Benedicta Fernandes, secretary parish pastoral committee, members of school management committee, Fr Steevan Fernandes, Fr William Martis were present on the occasion. Eunice Anchan and Glen Veigas anchored the event. Parents and alumni in large numbers visited the sports meet. Gerald Pinto physical education instructor, Amitha physical education teacher extended the words of gratitude.
