2G Case will Not Effect Alliance with DMK: Congress

New Delhi, May 6 (IANS): The naming of DMK Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi as a co-accused in 2G spectrum allocation case will not threaten the alliance with the party, the Congress said here Friday.

Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters here that the Congress's relations with the DMK were "good".

"Relations are good and will remain good with the DMK," Azad, who is in-charge of the Congress party affairs in Tamil Nadu, said on the sidelines of an event.

The minister, however, evaded any comment on the possible arrest of Kanimozhi.

"What possible arrest...?" he asked.

Speaking on the same lines, party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan also said the issues surrounding the 2G spectrum scam will not have any adverse effect on the Congress-DMK alliance.

"We are a separate party, but as an ally I think we have worked in great harmony and in close collaboration for the success of our coalition in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections," Natarajan told the news channel CNN-IBN.

She also denied any pressure on the Congress in the wake of the recent developments.

"The CBI, as we all know, is an autonomous body and it is functioning in an autonomous way monitored by the Supreme Court. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Indian National Congress and there is no question of my party coming under pressure for this," she added.

Kanimozhi Friday appeared before a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in connection with 2G spectrum allotment scandal.

Managing director of Kalaignar TV Sharad Kumar also appeared in the court. Several DMK MPs were present in the court at Patiala House complex.

Kanimozhi, who is Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's daughter, and Kumar are among those named as co-accused in the second charge sheet by the CBI.
