Udupi: Weekend, Deepavali holidays – Tourists crowd Malpe beach, St Mary’s Island

Udupi, Oct 24: Malpe beach and St Mary’s Island are crowded with tourists in the wake of weekend as well as Deepavali holidays.

Many natives of district who live in Bengaluru have come down to the city in order to celebrate Deepavali as there are holidays till Wednesday. From the morning of Sunday itself huge queue of vehicles could be seen going towards Malpe beach. Most of the tourists are from Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

It is said that 20000 people visited Malpe beach, sea walk and St Mary’s Island on Sunday. For the safety of tourists water scooters and additional life guards are deputed at beach.

Due to the rush, lodges in the city are full and many tourists are running helter-skelter to find a place. Malpe beach road from Adi Udupi which is generally congested with traffic is jam packed due to the tourists.

Traffic police have also deployed additional force till Wednesday as the rush is expected to continue.
