Bahrian, Oct 24: Yet another festival in Bahrain from the Mangalurean hinterland with the inaugural ceremony of the fourth 2-month long 'Kudlotsava 2022', took off in its typical style with the Krishna Shetty Memorial Cricket tournament for ladies and gents at the Indian club premises under the stewardship of Anand Lobo and his team of dedicated organizers on Friday October 14.
The gentle heat and humidity of the beginning of the autumn season and the noisy Mangalurean diaspora involved in this event, gave the sporting ladies and gents cricket teams in the spirit of competition provided the right platform complete with all its typical paraphernalia of 7-a-side cricket teams pitted against each other on knock-out basis all the day long to the offical inaugural ceremony. Every effort was made by the teams to give their best for cricket and they made every effort to enjoy their game in full, in the spirit of healthy competition, winning or losing notwithstanding!
This field event was fun to watch – with the gents and ladies spruced in sizzling team uniforms and their sporting best on the cricket field! One could see for sure what was to come in cricketing action – dropped catches, lofted twos and fours, target hits, no balls, dead balls, run-outs, the clumsy run for the ball, wides wider than one could imagine, bouncers bouncing gleefuly on the pitch….all in the name and game of cricket! The spectators did well in cheering the teams and applauding with enthusiasm that gave the cricketers on the field the boosting energy to perform better. The live commentary with all its pun and humor, was an added spice for the Kudlotsava cricket festival.
There were beautiful trophies to be won along with prizes from so many sponsors of the event. Thanks to the sponsors who came forward voluntarity in contributing their might for the Kudlotsava programme.
The official inaugural ceremony took-off beginning with a sumptuous welcoming procession starting from Papillon Restaurant complete with the beating of drums, a typical Dusserha tiger-dance team and smiling ladies in their colorful sarees typical with 'kalasha' brought in a Mangalurean Kudlotsava touch and nostalgia.
The VVIP guests Sheikh were welcomed to the beating of drums. Welcoming filmy dances were performed on the grounds to the joy of the VVIP guests and the ever-energetic noisy audience, interrupting for a brief while the cricket tournament that was going on.
