Mangalore: Annual Worship of Nantoor Cross Held at Bridgetine Convent

Mangalore, May 7: The annual worship of Nantoor Cross, located at Bridgetine Convent at Nantoor, was held with reverence on Friday May 6.

Fr Joseph Martis, rector of St Joseph’s Seminary, Jeppu, was the main celebrant of the Holy Mass held on the occasion along with Bendore parish priest Fr Peter Noronha, Fr Valerian D’Souza, Fr Denis D’Souza, Fr Alwyn Sequeira, Fr Santhosh Rodrigues, Fr Prakash, and Fr Wilson D’Souza.

A large number of laities including religious nuns were present at the worship.

Bridgetine Convent superior Sr Lilia Rodrigues thanked all for participating in the annual worship of the Holy Cross that was erected on Nantoor Hill here on April 28, 1935, by Bishop Victor Rosario
Fernandes in gratitude to the faithfulness of forefathers of Konkani Catholics in erstwhile South Kanara who survived the atrocities of Tipu Sultan for 15 years.

    Faithful Catholics attended Annual Worship of Nantoor Cross Held at Bridgetine Convent praised and worshipped God.
    A Holy Mass held on the occasion and on the photographs we see that many believers prayed and thanked God.
    The Holy Cross that was erected on Nantoor Hill on April 28, 1935, by Bishop Victor Rosario is a place to meditate and to reflect upon one´s life.
    In our restless world is it important to believers to have places to express their faith and love to Jesus.
    Believing in God gives us a meaning of life, strength and the power to take care of the poor and to share.
    Nuns dedicate their life to the poor and have done a good work.
    I personally got in touch with two nuns in Mangalore and I learnt a lot about their social work and what their order is doing.
    Faith is very alive among Catholics in Mangalore.
    As I mentioned in one of my former comments Indian priests and nuns have been living and working in Germany and they enrich the life in parishes.
    I know one nun from India she works at an elderly home in Cologne/Germany she listens to the elderly people, she takes time for them and the elderly get the feeling they are loved and understood.
    By attending The annual worship of Nantoor Cross Catholics express their faith, their joy.
    Let us pray that more and more young men and women are called by God.
    Faith makes human beings rich, gives them self confidence.

    The appropriation word should be "veneration" instead of "worship".
