Udupi, Oct 28: The State Home for the Women, Nittur turned into a wedding hall on October 28, 2022 as the Department of Women and Child Welfare initiated the marriage ceremony for one of the inmates of the home.
Jayashree (25) was the bride who tied the knot with Mallesh (29) of Davangere in the presence of Kurma Rao M, deputy commissioner and K Raghupathi Bhat, Udupi MLA.
MLA K Raghupathi Bhat who participated in the marriage ceremony also performed the rights of an elder brother and conducted the rituals.
Jayashree was an inmate for the past four years in the state home. After she learned various skills and underwent training for four years, she wanted to mingle in the mainstream of society.
Meanwhile Mallesh himself proposed to marry Jayashree. After a thorough verification process of the groom from the officials of Davangere district, the marriage was announced.
Speaking about this unique initiative by Women’s and Child Welfare Department, Kurma Rao M, deputy commissioner said “We have deposited Rs 15,000 on part of the government and have also collected around Rs 50,000 which has been deposited in the name of couple. We wish them a great life journey ahead.”
Veena, in-charge of the Women and Child Development Department and other officials were present on the occasion.
