Nobody is safe. It is our inherent attitude or ethic that is the issue wherein how we conduct when nobody is watching. We need oversight, just like a school teacher had a very close eye on the conduct of kids to follow Road safety, driving rules. If police is not watching, we drive like maniacs, regardless of who is on the road. The senior citizen here survived COVID and would have gather a lot of experience that society could have leveraged and had to meet an end by a speeding car. We have a word for it, "accident" and we forget about it after sometime completely oblivious that accidents are preventable. If serious oversight is only way we will learn, I think police department must be equipped with latest technology to monitor every second of the car when on road and we start issuing marks just like the school teacher. If anybody gets marks below 35, he should lose the luxury of driving any vehicle. This is how it works in China and the western world and some in India immediately showed the finger on privacy. But if conduct is so bad, some strict oversight is needed.

It is a shame that we have this speeding problem despite being the most educated district in the state. We had it even when the roads were bad decades ago and we still have it when the road conditions have improved. This has nothing to do with the road. It is the psyche of the drivers. Lack of education in schools about road safety and lack of awareness of hazards while driving are the root cause. No amount of fine, road humps will deter such people from speeding. Probably surprise speed camera tests, heavy fine, points on their driving license and a criminal record is the only deterrence to rash drivers. In the west, when you are employed, they expect a clean driving license with no points on it and no criminal record as a essential criteria for employment. If you dont comply with it, you can only apply for a small number of desk based, poorly paid jobs. Such punishments make people think ten times before they speed on the road, drink and rive or hit and run.

The infrastructure has all gone haywire; people have no patience; own vehicles which cannot be rode, at a stretch, beyond 60-75kmph on rural roads; opposite side driving is very common, stray animals, pedestrians too are at high risk due to lack of footpaths, youngsters like to flaunt their vehicles! The present vehicle population is much much higher than the roads can handle; time to discourage people from buying more than one car by imposing heavy fines, or the situation will go from bad to worse!!

Olden times bullock carts, horse carts, bicycles and mopeds were 100× safer! In the quest for faster speed and compensation with developed countries without commensurate development of roads, infrastructure, and irresponsible driving has led to this crisis! WHY DO WE WANT A 150KMPH BIKE OR 350KMPH SUV WHEN OUR SMART ROADS CANNOT HANDLE MORE THAN 100KMPH EVEN ON EXPRESSWAYS, FORGET LOCAL ROADS?

I'm not saying it's the victim's fault but I strongly think people above the age of 65 should not be allowed to drive. At least they should have annual licence renewals and fitness tests.

Our native place was once considered land of intellectuals but driving habbits speak contrary. Such impatience & ignorance that pedistrians risk being carried away or ploughed thru while crossing zebra crossings. Hope admins introduce signals & sirens on zebra crossings on main roads

Keep your fake nationalism aside for a minute and think what will you do when one of your loved ones dies in such accidents on roads are very badly built and maintained.

Vinyas Rai, why don't you stop pretending that everything is okay? Your saffron chumps are making it out to be that everything is simply perfect and India is on par with the US, when in reality, we are just 4 steps behind Rwanda, And with the Gujju duo at the helm, the remaining ground will be covered.
