Bengaluru, Oct 29: Those who have recovered from Covid are having hair fall issues after some months. Research by an organization has confirmed that there is a relation between Covid and hair fall.

The Hairline International Research and Treatment Center in the city has conducted a study in this regard. Between July 2020 and June 2022, 2,525 people visited the centre for hair fall issues. Out of them 80% were people who had Covid infection and recovered from treatment.

Out of the study group, 70% were below the age of 40. Among men, 85% of people have lost hair on the scalp area. The affected people include IT company employees, lecturers, bank employees, housewives, entrepreneurs, students and government employees.

Skin specialist of the research centre, Dr Kala Vimal says, “When a person suffers from Covid, the hair becomes weak due to the psychological and physiological pressure. After three months they start falling.

“Due to Covid the body suffers from nutrients. This affects hair. Those who recover from the infection, lose hair in two phases. This has various treatments, including platelet rich plasma.

“In the hair cycle there are three phases called Anagen, Catagen and Telogen. Telogen is a resting period that lasts for around 100 days. Hair of Covid infected patients reach Telogen stage untimely and start falling rapidly. It requires nine to 12 months for new hair to grow,” she said.
