Udupi, Oct 29: Christian Development Committee president J Kennedy Shanthkumar appealed to the Christian community to make use of the government development programmes and schemes that are in force for the upliftment of the community.
Speaking to media here at the travellers’ bungalow on Saturday October 29, he gave details about the various developmental programmes devised by the social welfare department of the government.
He said people of the community are unaware of the financial assistance and facilities extended by the government in terms of providing for renovation of churches, construction of walls for burial grounds, construction of church walls, construction of Christian community halls, old age homes and orphanages.
He said he would undertake a tour of the state and make an effort to create awareness about these facilities and to reach out to every member of the community.
Shanthkumar called upon the members of the Christian community to make use of the facilities such as student fellowships, scholarships, entry to pre-matric and post-matric hostels, loan facilities, subsidies to buy taxis and goods vehicles and all types of financial assistance available.
He said so far in Udupi district three Christian community centres had been built with a grants-in aid of Rs 1.27 crore from the government. He said a proposal to build two more community centres has been placed before the government.
Sachin Kumar of the Social Welfare department was also present.
