Mangaluru, Oct 30: First Neuro Brain & Spine Super Speciality hospital of the city is holding awareness campaign to public on paralysis (stroke) through a mobile vehicle. The campaign was inaugurated on Saturday, October 29, by ACP Dinakar Shetty.
Speaking on the occasion ACP Shetty said, “This is a good service. It is appreciable to convey awareness on paralysis, treatments available and Golden hour. There are chances that many lose control of their body organs life long due to lack of awareness. So the work of First Neuro in this regard is appreciable. As the mobile vehicle will tour six districts of Karnataka and two of neighbouring state of Kerala, many crore of people will get information. Public should make good use of this campaign.”
Dr Raghavendra B S, Neuropathy specialist did the introductory speech. Medical director of First Neuro Dr Rajesh Shetty, directors Roshini Shetty, Ramachandra Shetty, doctors Dr Rakshith Kedambadi, Dr Skanda Murthy, Dr Shrithi N M, Dr Ranjan S S, Dr Mohammed Shamim and administrative officer of the hospital Ranjith Shetty, other doctors and staff were present. The programme was compered by Sampath Kumar.
About the campaign: This campaign will be held for around one month on a mobile vehicle. This vehicle will tour Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Karwar, Chikkamagalur and Hassan districts of Karnataka state. In addition, it will cover Kannur and Kasargod districts of Kerala.
The vehicle has free BP and Blood sugar testing facility which will be carried out in respective districts and taluks. Dr Rajesh Shetty asked the public to participate in large numbers in this campaign and make good use of it.
About World Stroke Day: World Stroke Day is observed on October 29 every year. Stroke is a medical emergency. Paralysis (stroke) means clotting of blood in the brain or bleeding of brain. When the blood supply to our brain gets hampered or reduces stroke occurs. It prevents the nerves of the brain from receiving oxygen and proteins. Within minutes the cells of brain start dying.
The main reasons for the stroke are Diabetes, Blood pressure, elevated Cholesterol level, smoking tobacco.
The main symptoms of stroke are stammering while speaking, losing control of one side of the body, numbness of one part of the body, sudden defect in vision and losing of consciousness.
According to the present statistics, Around six lac people are getting treated for paralysis in Karnataka. In India, out of every one lac people, 119 to 145 people are affected with paralysis. Every year 73000 out of one lac paralytic stroke patients lose their lives in the country. One in every six people become victim of paralysis.
