Daijiworld Media Network – Kasargod (SP)

Kasargod, May 9: The policemen of Chittarikkal police station in the district have succeeded in arresting Benny V David (45) from Trissur, who runs Vellara Tours and Travels in Bangalore. David has been accused of defrauding about 52 persons of Rs 97 lac, by promising to get visas for them.

On being produced in Hosadurg court, he was remanded to 14 days judicial custody. His wife, Jomol (38), who is a co-accused in the case, has gone missing. The duo is facing charges of making promises to poor youth from Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode and Malappuram districts of providing visas for them in different countries, about three years back.

Benny had collected amounts from the youth, by promising them employment in Canada, Australia, Germany, and other countries. Each of these youth had paid between Rs 1.6 to Rs 2.4 lac to Benny, believing that they would get the visas as promised. When the visas did not come, the youth repeatedly enquired with Benny, but Benny succeeded in making them believe that technical problems in getting visas had delayed the process. Some of the deceived people then approached Hosadurg court.

After the court passed an order to the police, an inquiry team headed by deputy superintendent of police was formed. This team unearthed the details and established that visa fraud had indeed occurred.
