Mangaluru: St Agnes PU College celebrates Library Week

Mangaluru, Oct 31: St Agnes PU College celebrated library week to commemorate the contributions of libraries and library workers. The week-long events were organized to motivate students to read as well as develop interest in reading books, which has been on the decline during pandemic.

As a part of the celebrations, various competitions like Book Trailer, Book face Challenge, Drop a Book and be a lucky winner, Book Mark Contest, Book Review, Reader of the year and Best Caption Contest were held to the staff and students.

While addressing the students after inaugurating a book exhibition, St Agnes PU College principal Sr Norine DSouza A C congratulated the staff for organizing such an event and said that the objective of the library week is to highlight the essential role a library plays in transforming lives and strengthening the communities.

Giving details about the Library Week, St Agnes PU College librarian Dr Tressie Menezes said that the library week promotes the idea that libraries are places to get connected to technology by using broadband, computers and other resources, she said that libraries also offer opportunities to connect with media, programmes, ideas and classes - in addition to books.

St Agnes PU College library is one of the best library in the city, which has been divided into three major sections such as reading room, circulation section and photo copy section. Lending library facilities are provided to the needy students in which they can borrow books for a whole year along with the weekly lending. Library also has old question papers and bound volumes of old magazines and journals which provide mental food for teachers and students. To develop reading habit among students, compulsory library hour is marked in time table.
