Mangaluru/Udupi, Nov 1: The formation of Karnataka state, or Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated with a splendid ceremony by the district administration at Nehru Maidan here on Tuesday November 1.
District in-charge minister Sunil Kumar hoisted the flag and delivered Rajyotsava speech. He also received the guard of honour. The minister announced various schemes of the state government on the occasion of 67th Karnataka Rajyotsava celebration.
Sunil Kumar said, “It is our duty to remember all those who fought for the unification of Karnataka. Our government has come up with various schemes for the development of this state. Viveka school scheme is implemented to provide fundamental infrastructure to Kannada schools. Under this project approval is given to build 275 classrooms at a cost of Rs 39.30 crore. Under Amritshale scheme Rs 27 crore is released for the comprehensive development of 27 government schools. Smart classes have begun in the 27 schools that were selected in the primary state by Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat.
“Under the border area development scheme, our government has released Rs 21 crore grant in the past five years. Rs 50 lac grant is given for founding Kaiyyara Kinhanna Rai memorial under the same scheme.
“Rs 30 lac grant is approved for research book on Rashtrakavi Manjeshwar Govind Pai. The last book was printed in 1995. Now the demand for his research articles are more. So reprinting will be done soon.
“Under Swami Vivekananda youth self-help group, self-employment and financial activities will be encouraged. Under this two self-help groups will be formed under each gram panchayat and every group will be given Rs one lac grant and bank loan upto five lac. Already 45 self-help groups are formed in Dakshina Kannada.
“Under Sanjivini campaign poor and weak women are identified and they are given financial assistance under gram panchayat limits. Programme is organized to give these groups training on production and skill development.
“There is huge demand for theatre in Dakshina Kannada district. Due to various reasons, the district theatre project has taken back seat. Now a revised plan is prepared at a cost of Rs 14 crore,” he said.
As many as 34 achievers and 20 institutions received the district level Rajyotsava award.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs Vedavyas Kamath, Umanath Kotian and U T Khader, MLCs Prathap Simha Nayak and Harish Kumar, in-charge deputy commissioner Kumar, mayor Jayanand, former mayor Premananda Shetty and others were present.
Udupi district level Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations held
The district level Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations were held at the Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium in Ajjarkad.
S Angara, minister for department of Fisheries, Ports and Inland Water Transport and in-charge minister of Udupi, K Raghupati Bhat, MLA Udupi, Kurma Rao M, district commissioner, Sumithra R Nayak, president of municipal council of Udupi and others were present.
Angara unfurled the national flag and inspected the guard of honour.
Addressing the gathering he said, “On this occasion of 75 years of India's independence, we celebrated Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav with grandeur. Likewise, we also celebrated the silver jubilee of Udupi district. Let us hope that Kannada shines as Rajarajeshwari in Karnataka and shines like the crown jewel of Indian culture. Let us work hard for it. Let us look towards the future and take inspiration from our past culture and move forward. On this occasion of the unification of the state of Karnataka, the agreement and co-existence shown by Kannadigas who were scattered in different regions, played an important role in the formation of the new state of Karnataka. In the same way, leaving aside the differences of caste and religion, everyone's cooperation and coordination is very necessary for the progress of the state of Karnataka.”
As many as 34 achievers and two organizations were conferred with Udupi district Kannada Rajyotsava awards. Loku Poojari and Nagraj Pana of Ampara were conferred the award in Daivaradhane category, Ramayya Balegara of Byndoor, Girish Palimar, Manu Handadi, Raja Katpady and Surendra Mogaveera under Yakshagana and theater artistes’ category, Janaki Hande of Manoor, Kamalamma Dodannagudde and Julian Danthi Udyavar under agriculture dairy farming category, Babu K and Yakub Khader Gulwadi in literature, K Manjappa Suvarna Ambalapady, Suchita Pai and Niladhara Sherigar Kapu in music, M Ramachandra Acharya, Padubidri in journalism, Mahesh Marne and Ganesh Nayak Yennehole in art, Prof Kanaradi Vadiraj Bhatt, Dr Usha Chadaga Udupi, K Subrahmanya Acharya and Dayananda Shetty Kelarkalbettu in complex category, Raghavendra Shetty Giliyar and Mallaru Harish Kumar in folklore, Eshwar Malpe, T Ramachandra Naik, Karkala and Aitu Kulal Hebri in social service category, Dr Sunil Kumar Mundkur in medical, Mahima in children's category, Abhin Devadiga Santhekatte, Sulatha Kamath Katapadi and Arunkala S Rao Bommarabettu in sports category, and culinary experts Narayana Birilaray and Venkatesh Devadiga of Elluru were also given the 2022 district Rajyotsava award.
Team Nation First, Udupi and Sharada Pooja Committee, Karkala were conferred with the district level Rajyotsava award.
School children performed various dances on Kannada language and culture.
