Mangaluru: Altar Servers’ Day celebrated at Guardian Angel Church, Angelore

Mangaluru, Nov 1: Altar Servers Day was celebrated at Guardian Angel Church, Angelore on October 30. Around 90 altar servers actively took part in the Eucharistic Celebration at 9.30 am.

The holy mass was concelebrated by Fr Jovin Vishwas Sequeira, assistant parish priest of Holy Cross Church, Cordel, Kulshekar, as the main celebrant along with Fr Lawrence Cutinha, assistant parish priest of Guardian Angel Church, Angelore.

Fr Jovin Sequeira, in his homily, emphasized about St John Berchmans, the patron saint of altar servers. He said that St John Berchmans lived a life of prayer and that, as a young child, he constantly worked as an altar server. Being an altar server is a wonderful opportunity that God has given to each of them, and he has commanded them to execute it with zeal and dedication.

The altar servers participated in the Holy Eucharistic celebration and performed the liturgy with dedication and order. The newly joined altar servers from 4 th and 5 th grade took the oath.

The formal programme followed by cultural extravaganza was organized at the Golden Jubilee Memorial Hall at 7 pm. Fr William Menezes, parish priest, along with Fr Lawrence Cutinha, assistant parish priest, Maria D’Sa and Jyothi Monteiro, the animators and the presidents of the various committees were on the dais.

Daryl welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering. Verina read the report. Fr William Menezes, in his speech, congratulated the altar servers and expressed his happiness with increased number of children coming forward to be the altar servers. He encouraged them to attend the daily mass regularly. The altar servers who took part in various games and quizzes were awarded the prizes. Jyothi Monteiro, animator, thanked everyone for their active participation and excellent coordination. A variety entertainment program was performed which included, skit, dances and songs.

Sharon, Mahima, Leon and Deon compèred the entire formal and cultural programme. The programme ended with sumptuous dinner. This day was a memorable day for all the altar servers.
