Economic reforms by Manmohan Singh as Finance Minister gave new direction to India: Gadkari

New Delhi, Nov 9 (IANS): Union Road Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said that the economic reforms started by Manmohan Singh as the Finance Minister in 1991 gave a new direction to India as it ushered in a liberal economy.

Lauding the economic reforms initiated by Manmohan Singh, he said that the country is indebted to the former Prime Minister for these.

Gadkari said that India needs a liberal economic policy with the intention to provide its benefits to poor people, adding a liberal economic policy is for farmers and poor people, he added.

In his address at TIOL Awards 2022 event, organised by portal 'TaxIndiaOnline', he recalled that he could raise money to build roads in Maharashtra when he was a state minister in the mid-1990s due to economic reforms initiated by the former Prime Minister.

On how India's economic growth can further accelerate, the Minister said that India will need more Capex investment. He said that the NHAI is also raising money from the common man for the construction of highways.

He also talked about construction of 26 green expressways in the Country and the Ministry is not facing a shortage of money for this.

All the members of the BJP know the truth that they are yielding the fruits of economic growth because of the initiatives of Dr Manmohan Singh's UPA Government but don't have the guts to speak out. The demonetisation, a monumental failure of the Modi Government, was rightly pointed out by the Economist Mr Jean that it resulted in "Firing at the tires of a speeding car" (a reference to a growing economy brought to an abrupt halt) and proved to be true with cash and corruption thriving under the present Central Government. Karnataka a BJP-ruled State has the notorious distinction of earning the honour of being called "40% Government" an allegation made by the Contractors. Needless to state the scams in Recruitment in Karnataka. The desperation of the Modi Government to convince the Supreme Court to shelve the demonetisation case as a case of mere "ACADEMIC" nature clearly reflects the Government behaving like an OSTRICH burying its head in sand for its blunders afraid of facing the issue in Court. SHAME ON THE MODI GOVERNMENT. The nation awaits a JUST verdict on DEMONETISATION.

Read between the lines . He meant the reforms by Manmohan singh was under the able leadership of Late PM Narasimha Rao and not under the present Gandhi's . Even Modi always praises Narasimha Rao for his vision and for approving reforms .
