Five arrested in Mandya for attempting religious conversions

Mandya, Nov 12 (IANS): Five people were arrested in Karnataka's Mandya district for attempting religious conversions, police said on Saturday.

The five were identified as E.N. Kumara Nagesha and E.N. Vijay Gowda, residents of Kyathanahalli near Malavalli town; K.R. Hemanth Kumar from Kandegala; Sumanth from Mysuru; and S.C. Sandeep, a resident of Chamarajanagar.

The K.M. Doddi police have lodged a case against the accused following a complaint.

According to the police, the accused were distributing leaflets near the church of Annur village asking Hindus to convert to Christianity.

They were also accused of denigrating Hindu gods, abusing them and luring people to convert.

The villagers objected to their campaign and questioned them on their beliefs.

Later, they informed the police, following which the five accused were nabbed.

There is a difference in propagating and converting. What seems to be happening here is propagating and that is not an offence per Indian Constitution. In our country, there are laws and there are rules. Law is common to all, but rule is dictated by the leaders in power - they can decide whatever they want in an autocratic atmosphere as we see it in India. Frankly, since 2014 the law has taken a back bench with 90% of judges. So, no surprises with what is happening. Also, a point to be noted is, the Catholic Church never insults any religion or Gods nor they convert anyone easily. Even if one wants to become a Catholic, the church takes more than a year to find whether it is a true conversion coming from their heart or for some other reason? Over one year a candidate needs to go through lot of religious studies and highly qualified people, do take a close look at the candidate to find whether he is eligible to accept in our faith. There are many other Christian denominations who blatantly violate, and insult other religion and they don't spare, Roman Catholics as well. Differences aside, I hope the law is applied in the arrest rather than cheap rules brought in by Hindutva . If yes, there is no difference between them and Taliban.

Is it true? If impartial investigation reveals this has really taken place then lock them and throw the keys in the deep lake.
