Research scholar at Karnataka varsity alleges sexual harassment by faculty member

Bellary, Nov 15 (IANS): The Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya (VSK) University in Karnataka's Bellary district on Tuesday set up a committee to probe a woman research scholar's complaint of sexual harassment by an assistant professor.

Vice Chancellor, Prof S.C. Patil said that they have received a complaint of sexual harassment, and as per law, a committee had been formed to look into the allegations.

The committee had conducted inquiries for two days, he said, but refused to divulge any more details regarding the case.

According to sources, the research scholar had given proofs of sexual assault and misbehaviour of the accused assistant professor. She also submitted WhatsApp chats, and phone call details along with the complaint.

Source also said that pressure was put on the woman to reach a compromise, but the incident came to light as she had submitted her complaint to the Vice Chancellor.

The victim had earlier carried out her research work with another senior lecturer. However, she changed the guide and continued her research with the accused. The reasons for the change of the guide is not known.

The university has formed a committee comprising syndicate member Padma Vittal, Social Work Professors Pavithra and Gowri Manik Manasa and legal officer Jubair.

The committee had recorded the statements of the victim and accused persons. The University will take further action based on the report of the committee.

Apparently paiting the class room in saffron and wearing saffron shawls did not stop sexual predators in schools and colleges.

Infact such incidents have become more and evident. Looks like they pointing one finger at others forgot that 3 fingers were pointing back at them. Unfortunately, until when will the saffron hide their true color. Looks this color gives you the liberty to do anything and everything.

" She also submitted WhatsApp chats, and phone call details along with the complaint" Are these chats one sided or mutual conversation? If dual way of chats means they were communicating with each other. then how come grapes became sour? Dal meh kuch kala heh !

People, This is a common complain about Research Scholars and Female Medical students who appear for Clinical exams ....Most of the times accusations are true but there are enough cases where female students accusing their Professors if they get less marks than they expect... All false rape and molestation accusations with have FULL STOP....if accuser is charged if accusations turn out to be false.... Will we do that? ...Absolutely not....because current system suits our vested interests... ...Tak...Takk...

Dear Lan, while reading your comments, an incident comes to my mind. There was news that in a medical college in Mumbai, a professor used to give high marks to students who gave foreign liquor to him. Next day, a cartoon appeared in Times of India, where a medical college was shown. In front of that college, two students were standing, one holding first class degree and other second class degree. The first class degree holder told other student "I told you to give a black label, but your father thought red label also would do the work. See the difference now."

so many harrassment cases are reported in Daijiworld that it looks like whenever young women have any official relationship, such ads as scholars, employees, teachers, care givers, servahts, etc., with males who have a role in supervising, the odds are the males are in trouble. These supervisors should get "vulnerability" allowances.
