Udupi, Nov 15: Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M directed officials to open registration centres from November 21 to buy locally grown paddy at minimum support price (MSP).
He was speaking after presiding over the task force committee meeting held at the office of the deputy commissioner on Tuesday, November 15.
A minimum support price of Rs 2,540 has been fixed for locally grown paddy. The DC has directed to open registration centres at ten places and seven paddy purchase centres at various places. He directed officials to assign graders to verify the quality of the paddy and paddy godowns to store the produce.
He asked farmers, farmer’s leaders and farmer’s communication centres to provide additional information and provide details of the centres.
He directed the department of food and civil supplies, agriculture department and APMC officers to buy the paddy in coordination.
The mill owners said that they will provide all the necessary cooperation for hulling and to convert the rice as boiled rice.
Kiran Kodgi, vice president of the state food and civil supplies, training officer DC Yathish, food and civil supplies department deputy director Mohammed Isaq, agriculture department joint director Kempe Gowda, state food and civil supplies department officials, APMC department officers and others were present.
