Bengaluru, Nov 16: High court (HC) acquitted former Beltangady police circle inspector Gangi Reddy, who was convicted of disproportionate asset case in special court of Lokayukta of the city in 2020.

The then Lokayukta team led by DySP Sadananda Varnekar had raided the house of Gangi Reddy in 2009 and had confiscated many records and filed a case of disproportionate asset on the police officer. In the case, it was mentioned that the officer had Rs 19 lac worth assets more than his income from salary.

Lokayukta DySP M Vittaldas Pai, who conducted the inquiry had filed charge sheet against Gangi Reddy. Lokayukta special court had convicted Gangi Reddy in 2020 and sentenced him to four years simple imprisonment and fine of Rs five lac. However, high court quashed the case saying that the agricultural income, rental income of the building owned by the police officer at his native place and the account of money that the officer got due to sale of gold from family share were not considered during the investigation.

Lawyer Parameshwara N Hegde and Jinendra argued for Gangi Reddy.
