Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Nov 16: As soon as the union ministry of land transport and highways took out notification to stop toll collection at Surathkal toll gate, a proposal to revise the toll charges at Hejmady toll gate is sent to the ministry.

The proposal is sent from regional office of the highway authority to the union ministry. This involved the revision or hiking of toll charges for various vehicles at Hejmady toll gate.

Hejmady toll gate (toll gate)

Once the approval for the revised toll fee proposal will be given by the union ministry in Delhi, the state government or Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner (DC) will take out official order for the closure of NITK toll gate.

DC Ravikumar M R held a discussion in this regard with the officials of NHAI on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, protest by the toll gate protest committee continued on the 19th day and former minister Abhayachandra Jain, who participated in the protest, said that the protest will continue till the toll collection is officially stopped at NITK toll gate.

What did mangaloreans achieve by this?? Now there was no toll charge at surathkal and 40 rs for car at next toll gate one way... now thanks to protests, we will shell out more!!! Seriously, the protest group was made goobe by the govt!! They should have thought about it that they are dealing with a govt which made entire country goobe with 15 lacs in bank account statement!!!

What is the point is closing one toll gate and increasing the charges on the other ? At the end it goes to the same pockets and commuters are the one who will have to pay more when they cross Hejmadi toll. First of all, Surathkal toll gate was illegal and it should be closed without any other proposals. Where is the local MLA, MPs who promised to remove the toll gate years back. Now elections coming next year, all these drama started but commuters are not benefited at all.
