Bengaluru, Nov 16: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has called upon industrialists to take up innovation and research to benefit from technological inventions to prosper and thereby add to Karnataka’s wealth and revenue.
Addressing the Silver Jubilee Edition of the India’s flagship event, Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS)-2022, which is being held at Bengaluru Palace Grounds on Wednesday, November 16 and inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the chief minister said environment-friendly situation was necessary for all sectors to grow and it is the duty of the present generation to think of the future generation so as to leave a better world for them.
Technological inventions must concentrate on protecting the environment and also bridge the digital gap, he said environment-friendly technology, innovation and eco-economics must be the watchword on industries and other sectors as well.
The chief minister said IT/BT and Artificial Intelligence have the capacity to preserve and conserve the natural resources, which are limited. It is for the industrialists to take the help of science to benefit from the vast reservoir of information and knowledge that is available to mankind.
The need of the present times is utilising renewable sources of energy as fossil fuels are not going to last forever. All industries must concentrate on protecting environment and climate, he said.
Bommai said Bengaluru has over 400 Research and Development (R&D) Centres. The State Government is encouraging Beyond Bengaluru to give importance to Tier-2 cities like Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad and other places besides giving special boost to IT industries.
“Everything is possible in Bengaluru,” the chief minister said declaring that the government wants to develop satellite towns around Bengaluru to decongest the city. Knowledge, Science and Tech cities are being development in the next six months, he said.
Rs 36,804 cr investment in Electronic sector
Higher Education and IT/BT, Science and Technology Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan said an investment of Rs 36,804 crore is likely in the Electronic Sector and several leading companies have come forward to invest and set up their production facilities.
The minister said the achievements of Bengaluru in the Science and Technology Sectors were simply mind-boggling. The present turnover of $ 135 million in the IT/BT sectors was targeted to reach $ 300 million by 2025.
He said Karnataka has become home to Semi-conductor, Chip, Design sectors. Deals for investment of Rs 22,900 crore in the semi-conductor sector have already been signed, he said indicating several leading companies are investing in the state.
