Mangaluru, Nov 17: User fee at the international airport in the city will not be hiked as the proposal to increase the same is not approved.

The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India has decided to continue the same user fee for passengers passing through the airport in the city till March 2023 or next order.

A proposal was sent to hike the user fee at airports of Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram and Srinagar along with the Mangaluru International Airport. The regulatory authority decided to continue the old fee in Mangaluru, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Srinagar airports.

Adani Group, which maintains the international airport in the city had proposed to increase user fee by Rs 100 from October 1, 2022. At present the user fee is Rs 150 per person. There is plan to increase this fee to Rs 725 for domestic passengers and Rs 1,200 for international passengers towards the beginning of 2026.

Adani Group took the maintenance of international airport in the city in October 2020. It had continued the same old user fee. However, Adani airports has clearly explained its upcoming development activities at the airport in its MYTP proposal. At present the group is conducting works of extension at a cost of Rs 300 crore. In the next year, the group will also spend an additional Rs 500 crore for developmental work in the next five years.

MIAP is being funded by Gold Smugglers from Mallu. We have enough revenue and let it continue and no need to raise Airport fees. Money will automatically come to airport authorities by confiscation of gold smuggling.

Dammam-Mangalore fare is SAR 950, whereas Dammam-Kannur Rate is SAR 575. Why there is so much disparity in the rates for two closed international airport. The prices of flight tickets between Mangaluru and gulf countries are increasing steeply. This is causing a huge burden to NRI Kannadigas. The rate of flight ticket to neighbouring Kannur International Airport from gulf countries is just half that of Mangaluru. So most of the gulf Kannadigas prefer to land in Kannur rather than in Mangaluru. At present, the rate of ticket on an Air India Express from Abu Dhabi in UAE to Kannur International airport is AED 450 (Rs 9,700), while for Mangaluru airport it costs AED 850 (Rs 18,350). In addition, flights are landing every day at the Kannur airport, while only four days in a week at Mangaluru international airport. EVER SINCE Gujrat crony capitalist taken over mangalore airport they are looting mangalore air travelers.

My humble request with Airport authority to first add one proper Restaurant in this Airport with good food and seating facility at least 60 to 75 peoples. It noticed once flights gets delay (Especially it affecting Out Bond Flights) those people are coming from far cities to reach airport 3 hours prior departure have on option to have proper food. I personally suffered without food plenty of times due to delay of outbound flight. Once Security checks (Domestic or International) completed proper facility, only two shops with Tea, Coffee, and some kind of ready made sandwiches. If people can buy air tickets, they can afford the food too. I sincerely hope Concern authority wail take this point seriously
