Udupi, Nov 19: Kasturba Medical College Hospital, Manipal observed the world anti-microbial awareness week on Saturday, November 19.
The campaign aims to raise awareness and comprehension among the general public, said Dr Shashikiran, medical superintendent of Dr TMA Pai Hospital, Udupi.
He called upon all sectors to support the responsible use of antibiotics and to develop anti-microbial resistance prevention strategies by cooperating in a One Health framework.
Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal joined hands in these efforts by conducting a series of activities to spread awareness in the community, he said.
He said that our fight is against antimicrobial resistance and in raising awareness among the general public, medical doctors, pharmacists, veterinary doctors, and health workers.
Dr Chironjay Mukhopadyaya, associate dean of KMC Manipal said a cyclathon will be held on November 20 to spread awareness in the community. The vice-chancellor of MAHE Lt Gen Dr M D Venkatesh will flag off this event at 6:30 am in front of the OPD block of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.
A workshop has also been planned for clinical pharmacists during the week to educate them about the importance of dispensing practices of antibiotics.
He said that every small effort can help us prevent antimicrobial resistance and death. Societal participation in these campaigns can create a major impact for a better tomorrow. MAHE expects everyone to join hands with them in this effort.
Dr Vijay Kumar Shet of City Hospital Udupi, Dr Vandana, head of department of Microbiology and Dr Madhav Rao, professor, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences were also present.
