Mangaluru: Dr NSAM PU College holds annual sports meet

Mangaluru, Nov 23: Sports Day was conducted by Dr NSAM PU College on November 19 at KSHEMA, Athletic Ground Deralakatte.

The programme began with an impressive and well synchronized march past by all the classes to the rhythm of the march band. Inaugurator of the event Dr Harsha Halahalli, registrar, Nitte Deemed to be University, inaugurated the sports meet with lighting of the ceremonial torch.

Dr Harsha Halahalli, while addressing the gathering said, “Sports play an integral role in the all-round development of students. Competition spirit, leadership qualities adaptability and working as a team are qualities that should be inculcated through sports activities right from the childhood”. He further emphasized Nitte encourages the students’ who are interested in sports.

Chief guest, Dr Murali Krishna V, sports advisor, Nitte Deemed to be University while addressing said, “Healthy youth is important to build the nation were students are the country’s wealth and that is possible through sports. Discipline and commitment to achieve the goal can be practiced in once life through sports.” He urged with the students’ that sports should be part of one’s daily routine.

Principal Dr Naveen Shetty K in his presidential remark said, “Education not only includes curriculum, everything needed for the all-round personality development of the student is provided by the institution and that the sports event is part of it. Sports teaches the life lesson that today's loser wins tomorrow.”

The athletic events comprised both track events and field events such as shot-put, discuss throw, long jump and Kabaddi. Prizes were given by the principal and other lecturers. Physical director Vidyadhar Takoor welcomed the gathering while student sports secretary Shamitha delivered the vote of thanks.

Guest of honour Vijesh Naik, alumnus 1998 batch and all the staff members where present.
