M'luru: Carmel School hosted AICS Throwball Tournament-‘Catches Win Matches'

Mangaluru, Nov 23: Carmel School proudly hosted Association of ICSE and CBSE School (AICS) of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Districts, Throwball Tournament under the caption ‘Catches Win Matches’ on November 22.

The teams from 30 schools enthusiastically participated in the tournament.

The inaugural programme commenced at 9 am by receiving and escorting the guest to the dais accompanied by the symphonic school band led by Jenisha Sequeira under the training of Vijay Olivera.

The dignitaries on the dais were Sister Rose Agnes A C, vice provincial superior, Karnataka Province, Fr Robert DSouza, president of AICS and principal, Lourdes Central School, Bejai, Sister Sarika, The principal, Sister Violette, school administrator, Suraj, AICS Representative, Dr Rouchelle Tellis, vice president, PTA, Lavita Lydia D'Souza, member of School Managing Committee, Liston D'Souza, Ajay, Prashanth D'Souza.

The blessings of the Almighty were implored through a prayer dance. The guests and the gathering were cordially welcomed by Sister Sarika A C, The principal. Sister Rose Agnes A C, vice provincial superior, Karnataka Province, presided over the programme and Fr Robert D'Souza, president of AICS and principal, Lourdes Central School, Bejai was the chief guest.

Sister Rose Agnes A C, in her message, stressed on the values of hard work and determination through the narration of a motivational story and encouraged all the participants and wished them good luck for the tournament. Sister lauded the efforts of the Principal and the staff members for the meticulous planning and implementation of the event. She thanked Sr Marie Lucy, Superior, joint secretary, St Ann’s Campus Institutions for the success of the event. 

Fr Robert D'Souza, in his message, called the students to accept sports as a part of their curriculum and the pathway to the overall growth as an individual. He also emphasized on the aim of AICS towards the mental and physical development of students through the sports. The management, principal and the staff members were appraised for imparting the quality education and rendering their selfless service to the society through education.

The guests inaugurated the tournament with the grand revelation of the winner trophy symbolically and by playing a game with a team in the court. The teams of 30 schools took part energetically and enthusiastically in the tournament. Carmel School, Mangaluru emerged the distinguished champion of the tournament.

Vidyavardhaka English Medium School, Shirva bagged the runner up trophy and B R M P C Public School, Vidyagiri Bantwal and Canara High School, Mangaluru, secured third and fourth places respectively.

The trophies of Best Player of the day and The All Rounder were bagged by Bhuvishree H and Pragya P Salian of Carmel School, The best receiver was Bhomikha of Vidyavardhaka English Medium School, Shirva.

The Valedictory progrmme was initiated with the receiving of the guests followed by a thanksgiving prayer.

Sister Maria Sudeepa AC, secretary, Apostolic Carmel Educational Society, Karnataka presided over the valedictory ceremony and Satish Kumar Kudroli, retired Inspector of Excise Deparment of Karnataka was the chief cuest accompanied by Abdul Latheef, corporator, Port Ward, Sr Sarika, principal, Sister Violette, school administrator, Anil Noronha, lecturer, St Ann’s PU College, Mr Suraj, AICS Representative Sister Maria Sudeepa AC in her message underlined the value of good sportsmanship and congratulated the winners.

Satish Kumar Kudroli highlighted the essence of games and sports in the life of students. He also requested the students to aim at achieving the national awards at sports in various fields. Abdul Latheef, the Corporator of the Port Ward spotlighted on the importance of participation, which helps in developing true sportsmanship.

Sister Sarika, the Principal appreciated the selfless service rendered by the School Physical Directors Karunakara A, Sachitha and the entire faculty of Carmel School in planning and execution of the grand event. She also expressed her gratitude towards the service rendered by the Referees throughout the day.

The matches beautifully captured the attention of the audience by the efficient commentary of Anil Noronha. The stage programme was compered by Bhoomika J Nair, Pearl D'Mello, Sayeeda, Piya P Naik under the leadership of Tr Cynthia Pais for the inaugural ceremony. Tr Sharol and Janice Jimmy compered the valedictory function.

Vote of thanks was proposed by Tr Vindhya and Tr Shanthi Pinto.
