Mangaluru: With closure of Surathkal toll gate, charges at Hejamady hiked

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru Nov 25: With the government ordering the closure of Surathkal toll gate, the same charges will be collected at Hejamady toll gate now. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) issued order of revised toll gate fee at Hejamady.

The order from NHAI also says that it has to ensure there will not be any disruption or stoppage to the combined toll collection at Hejamady toll gate and in case there is any disruption or stoppage of toll collection, the losses on this account shall be reimbursed by the state government as per the state support agreement to NHAI.

The protestors are staging indefinite protest at Surathkal which is inching towards a month. The protestors also warned that an intensified protest will begin at Hejamady if the toll collection is doubled.

On November 14, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel tweeted that Surathkal toll gate has stopped collecting toll.

The members of the samithi have been continuously raising their voice to remove the Surathkal toll gate. As part of the protest, samithi had conducted ‘Toll Gate Chalo’ from Hejamady to Surathkal toll gate on March 22 and staged a protest on September 13 where the samithi warned that they will lay siege to the Surathkal toll gate on October 18.

On October 18, protestors gathered in large numbers and crossed the barricade put up by the police. Several leaders were arrested.

Before we jump into strike etc, We need to understand one thing which is really important to maintain peace within our self, that public/we have voted and elected the state and central Govt and by this it should be understood that we are responsible and we need to accept for any action taken by them. Most importantly, lets understand that we are not bigger then Govt or its rules. We need to accept whatever the decision is. So please for sake, don;t waste your time by doing hunger strike or etc etc. Instead, plan to overcome the cost which is created by these to loot us.

I like the full entertainment they provide to us free all the time. Petrol/Diesel is very cheap. To show to the world we are rich we have to pay high rates. Rupees is becoming more and more rich so glad. Every thing is becoming more what a progress. Why people are objecting the good work of progress let it go higher and higher. Even toll gates they have to increase the height.
