Mangalore: Kozhikode MP Demands Hampankatta Stop for Karwar Train

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, May 18: At a time when local people’s representatives and organizations seem to have not taken the problems the passengers from the city will face on account of shifting of the boarding and alighting point for the proposed extension of Bangalore-Mangalore train to Karwar from the present Mangalore Central to Mangalore Junction station, support has come in from unexpected quarters.

Railways has proposed that the above train, which will run thrice every week from Karwar to Bangalore, and thrice on the opposite direction, will touch Mangalore Junction (Kankanady) instead of Hampankatta (Mangalore Central) station, citing additional time required for to and fro journeys and lack of additional platforms.

M K Raghavan, MP representing Kozhikode constituency, has urged the railway minister not to truncate the journey of the said train at Mangalore Junction. He has demanded for extending the train’s journey to Mangalore Central station, adding that passengers from Kerala will face hardships if they are forced to get down and board the train at Mangalore Junction station.  He has, through a letter addressed to railway minister, Mamata Banerjee, and minister of state for railways, Muniyappa, urged them to take steps to ensure that the train touches Mangalore Central station without fail.
