Udupi SP confirms cooker blast accused Shariq’s visit to Krishna Math

Udupi, Dec 2: Confirming the visit of cooker blast Shariq to Krishna Math in the city, SP Hakay Akshay Machhindra said, “Information was available during interrogation about the visit of Shariq to Udupi. Mangaluru city police had come to Udupi and held an inquiry. Shariq had made one trip in the month of October. So Mangaluru police have investigated the matter. Udupi police are not the investigating officers of this case. So Mangaluru police will give details of Shariq’s visit to Udupi.”

With regards to document verification of people who arrive in the city as labourers, Machhindra said, “Malpe of the district has scores of outstation state labourers. We have already held discussions with fishermen organizations in this regard. Most of the outstation labourers come to Malpe to work in fishing boats and factories. They are employed in fishing net weaving and Ice factories also. Fishermen organizations are instructed to gather information of all the labourers. Even if the labourers arrive on a temporary basis, collecting information is mandatory. More CCTV cameras will be installed in sensitive areas. We will gather information from fishermen leaders also

“We will use technology to control and maintain safety and security. I have held discussions with the deputy commissioner in the wake of the incident at Mangaluru. We have discussed the safety of several temples in the district. We will form a district level coordination committee. We will take action to inspect the security system of temples periodically. Except for Muzrai temple, we will monitor temples where a huge number of devotees arrive. Directions will be given according to the public safety act,” he said.
