Mangalore: HC Directs Fr Muller Medical College to Admit Student

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, May 19: Through an order passed on Tuesday May 17, Karnataka High Court directed the city-based Father Muller Medical College to admit Rakesh Sera, a native from Vogga in Bantwal taluk, into postgraduate medical course being run by the college. Sera had secured 198th rank in Postgraduate Entrance Test conducted by COMED-K.

Sera, in his petition to the High Court, had contended that in spite of having earned a seat in general medicine in the college through COMED-K, he was denied admission by the college. He was given a seat under quota meant for Christian students, he said. After completing MBBS degree course from Kasturba Medical College here, he had appeared for the entrance test conducted by COMED-K, and was allotted a seat in the said college. He reportedly remitted fee, but was denied a seat when he approached the college authorities on April 27. The student claimed that the seat allotted to him was sold to another student for a higher amount.

Justice Ram Mohan Reddy, who heard the case, also ordered issuance of notices to Rajiv Gandhi University of Medical Sciences, Medical Council of India, the college in question, and COMED-K secretary, it is learnt.

The college authorities said they are yet to receive copy of the detailed order and study it.

Congratulations Rakesh! You have done a great job by fighting for your right. When they want donations they approach christians, but when christians want seat in their educational institution, they deny us the chance. This has to be stopped. Being a parishioner, I am really proud of you.
