Puttur: Thieves Leave Family Poorer by Rs 2.45 lac

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (SP)

Puttur, May 20: In a stealth operation executed during the day on Thursday May 19, unknown thieves entered the home of Timmappaiah, living at Rakteshwari extension in Manjalpadpu,  and took away ornaments and cash worth Rs 2.45 lac. The thieves seemed to know that no one was present at the house then, and that the family members were away for a long time.

Parents of Timmappaiah were away at Bangalore, while his wife had left for her job. His daughter had visited the house of a friend, and the house remained locked in their absence. When everyone in the family was away, thieves entered their home through the roof, broke open the doors of a cupboard and locker in the house, and took away 15 sovereigns of gold ornaments, and Rs 5,000 in cash. The thieves returned through the roof route.

The theft came to light at around 3.30 pm. The family members noted that the thieves, instead of breaking open the rear door, had chosen to gain entry through the roof, and that a ladder found near their house had been used by them to scale the wall. This gave an indication that the thieves were either known to the family, or were nomads who roam around and keep watch on deserted houses.

Assistant superintendent of police, Dr Rohini Katoch and other police personnel visited the spot. Sniffer dogs were summoned to the spot. A case was registered in town police station. Investigation is on.
