Dublin: Konkans Ireland celebrate Christmas

Dublin, Dec 7: Konkans Ireland Christmas celebration was held at St Lorcan’s boys national school, Dublin on December 3. Festive cheer was sensed by all beautiful and colourful happy audience. The celebration started with refreshments - Samosas, cutlets and hot masala tea to warm up the freezing crowd.

Master of the ceremony Deepthi Fernandez welcomed everyone assembled. And also welcomed new comer from Moodubelle Fr Valerian Castelino. Fr Valerian was delighted to be part of Konkans Ireland. He started the programme with prayer. Then there was Nativity play directed by Alwyn Fernandes. Participants were Brian and Monica as Mary and Joseph. Rachel as Angel, Shobha as Elizabeth, Eldric as King, Lester and Vijay Roshan as villagers, Brendan, Bradley and Aviv as sheperds, Jack, Elisha and Hannah as little angels. Shobha, Rachel, Agnes and Avrit are angel dancers. Narrated by Alwyn and Vanitha, background music by Akash Fernandes.

Christmas Carols band lead by Juwan Prabhu with guitar, keyboard by Akash Fernandes, Deepthi, Derick, Vanitha, Monica, Brian, Eldric, Vijay Roshan, Lester, Brendan and Bradley and Ava were among the singers. During the Carols, Santa Claus dashed through the crowd distributing smiles & chocolates

Deepthi started her energetic line dance, everyone followed her musical moves. Then began the cultural activities. Konkans Ireland talented kids and adults rocked the stage. Ashline and Arvin’s magnificent Tollywood number performance, Raizel and Rolen’s amazing dance, fantastic first solo dance performance by Arnel Lobo, Fusion breath taking Bharatnatyam by Ashline lobo. First time stage performance by talented tiny tots Ruben, Orville, Elisha, Sharon, Hannah and Ava. Mind blowing Fusion Performance by Arathi, Janice, Rebecca, Elvicia, Vijay Roshan and Trevor. Rockstar performance by Chris & Crystal. Comedy stars Alwyn, Savitha and Zenita made everyone laugh with their acting to the skit lazy wife. Another talented tiny tot performance by Leandra, Lyrica Cutinho and Agniv Nair. One more astonishing performance by Mascarenhas girls Valerie, Venessa and Venora. Fr Suresh Babu blessed the Konkans Ireland to grow bigger and bigger.

Now it was time to feed the hungry tummies. Sumptuous Mangalorean meal was served including sanna dukramas. During lunch Arathi Anil and Derick melodiously entertained the crowd through their karaoke. Some of the cookery talented ladies prepared kuswar and raised funds to North Karnataka Diocesan priest charity.

Many kids and adults participated in the greeting card, ornament, star and Christmas cake competitions, judged by Fr Valerian Castelino. Prizes won by Savitha D’souza, Rishon D’souza, Crystal Tauro and Zion D’souza.

Deepthi conducted few fun filled games for all ages. New comers introduced themselves and delighted to be part of Konkans Ireland. Housie-housie was played enthusiastically. Prizes won by Valerian Tauro, Sandrin Tauro, Leon Tauro, Sylveria lobo. Hampers won by Anil/Arathi, Jason and Rebecca. Next year’s committee leaders were selected. Vote of Thanks by Christmas Committee leader Eldric D’souza.

Cake and Mulled wine was served to bring out the left over energy. DJ neville’s beats of amazing rhythm rocked the party. Made everyone get up from their seats and jump on to the dance floor.

Wrapped up the day with lots of lovely memories as we waved each other goodbye and drove back to our nests. Merry Christmas and a prosperous healthy Happy New Year to all the readers.
